Create a personalised KiwiSaver plan start here:

Everyone in KiwiSaver needs to make an active choice of what fund to be in, since there’s no ‘one size fits all’.

Did you know that there could be a $130k difference by retirement between a conservative and a growth fund? We’ve got the tools and resources to help you see what type of fund suits (balanced, growth, etc) and sort through funds of that type to choose one. This way you make sure your KiwiSaver is a good fit.

Top money hacks

  • Find the right type of fund for you first (eg, balanced, growth), based on how soon you’d like to use your KiwiSaver money and how comfortable you are with risking it.
  • Higher fees don’t always mean better service or better results – in fact, they generally limit your returns. On average, in the cheapest fund you’d pay around $3,000, whereas in the most expensive you could pay $102,000 over your KiwiSaver experience!
  • Don’t switch to a fund just based on how it has performed… there’s more to it, and there’s no guarantee that positive returns will continue.

Next steps

To get on your way sorting your KiwiSaver, here are some key actions to take.

See how to select a fund

Ideally, you want to pick a fund that is the right type, has reasonable fees, comes with good service, and hasn’t performed subpar. Here’s how.

Pick your fund

Find the right type of fund for you (eg, balanced, growth), then sort through funds of that type. You’ll be ready to make an informed choice and switch.

Switch KiwiSaver funds

It’s pretty simple to switch KiwiSaver funds, either to another fund with your same provider or to another company entirely. Here’s more.
